The arrival of the railway in Skerries opened the town to Victorian visitors seeking a healthy break from the polluted City. Brendan’s paper describes how the Skerries Building Company was formed by a group of wealthy entrepreneurs who recognized that the railway offered a new business opportunity to build holiday homes. The paper continues with pen portraits of the entrepreneurs and describes the progress of the company that built the fine houses occupying Holmpatrick Terrace. It also considers what happened to the tenants who originally occupied the site. (9 pages)
