The paper deals with the military lives and experiences of Skerries men, James and Charles Murray, active as Irish Volunteers from 1917, and subsequently in the War of Independence and Irish Civil War. The author draws on the personal papers of James Murray; on records in the Irish Military Archive regarding applications for Military Service Medals and Military Service Pensions; newspaper reports and other sources. The lives and careers of both men, in the years post 1923, are addressed.
