Synopsis: The civic guard barracks on Strand Street was raided and mined by armed men in the early hours of 11 February 1923. The explosives destroyed the heart of the building and brought down part of the roof but the men stationed there were ordered to leave before the bombing took place. The bulk of the paper examines the compensation claims of those living closest to the barracks whose houses sustained damage during the attack.
