Paper 264
Lecture – 2008
Author – Flavin, Patricia
Published in: Time & Tide Vol 9
The paper is based on letters and correspondence between Marion Owens and her aunts and cousins who had to emigrate to England and America in the 1920’s, and 1930’s, and also between Marion and Joe Kelly who emigrated to Accra, in West Africa. Marion married Joe Kelly in October 1930 and he continued to work in Accra. They had three children – two girls and a boy. However Marion died in December 1944 after 14 years of marriage. She was only 43 years old. The correspondence was always interesting and we have a glimpse into the Social History of Skerries and Dublin in the 1920’s, 1930’s and during the 2nd World War in the 1940’s. (28 Pages).
