by Frank Whearity
In his April presentation, Frank Whearity looked at events as they unfolded in Easter Week 1916 in Skerries and its environs. He drew on material from his MA thesis titled ‘The Irish Volunteers in north County Dublin 1913-1917’ now held by Maynooth University Library, and also by the Fingal Library and Local History Archives, Swords. Further information came from his book which emanated from the thesis and was published by the Four Courts Press, in 2013, and titled, The Easter Rising of 1916 in north County Dublin: a Skerries perspective. Between these sources and others Frank put a human face on the rising as it was played out in Skerries and examined where the men who were arrested from that town subsequently found themselves interned.
