The Springboards, Red Island, Skerries

Paper 230

Lecture – 2002

Author – Ryan, Hugh

Published in: Time & Tide Vol 4

The author spoke from an experience of almost 50 years swimming there and has produced a very humorous paper based on personal recollections but ranging far and wide in its references. The first visitor of note to Red Island was St. Patrick! You can see his “size 14” footprint on the rocks just east of the concrete bathing place, now called the Springboards. The bathing place was first constructed by the Visitors’ Association in 1902.
