The paper starts with a brief history of firefighting and the legislation which supported it. The origins of the modern Skerries fire service date to 1943 with its first fire station in Quay Street. The development of the service since then and the people involved is described. Skerries now has a modern fire brigade manned by a part-time crew of twelve who are trained to the same standard as full-time members. (12 pages).
