Marie says, through the pages of the Drogheda Independent I will try to give a flavour of the issues that exercised the minds of the inhabitants of Skerries (in 1911). Also I will use reports from the Fingal Independent to contrast and compare the concerns of 1911 and 2011.
The numerous examples chosen are most interesting and informative e.g. a pub on Skerries Harbour Road whose female proprietor was not entirely law abiding and a shocking incident of domestic violence brought to court by a brave victim. The author also found that emigration was as much a feature of Fingal in 1911 as it is today. (Pages 34+ ).
