A brief history of the Skerries 100 motor cycle road races

Paper 283

Lecture – 2011

Author – Havelin, Harry

Published in: Time & Tide Vol 8

July 2011 witnessed the 25th Skerries 100 (though the 66th actual Skerries race) run by the Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club. Harry Havelin was in The Bus Bar to present an illustrated talk on which this paper is based. The short paper lacks film footage from the 1940s and ’50s which was shown to a rapt audience from both the Skerries Historical Society and the Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club. Nevertheless it is packed with information about the various Skerries courses over which the race has been run, the winners and speeds achieved and the general history of the event and its predecessors.
