There was the campaign, disagreement and final success in bringing light to the streets and houses, the efforts to have the harbour improved, which gives an insight into politics under the London administration. Eclectic, interesting and informative would describe this paper.

The paper records one of a series of talks commemorating the centenary of the 1911 Census. The author described the Skerries of a century ago by choosing nuggets of information from papers in the archive. His research unearthed locals’ and outsiders’ views of Skerries. There was T.S.F. Battersby of Shenick Lodge near the brook, D.P.Moran a journalist who settled here, S.H.S members with good memories – Paddy Halpin and Honora Branagan.
