A short account of the rural parish of Balscadden, near Balbriggan, County Dublin. The place name and a patrician connection through Saint Benen, a native of the area and disciple of Patrick are discussed. The local National School building opened in 1986 is dedicated to Saint Benen. 1659 census of Ireland – population of Balscadden = 190. Balbriggan, as yet undeveloped, numbered 30 in 1659.
